Levi Block (b. 2000, Minnesota) is currently a full time band director with a passion to write music for all kinds of ensembles such as Concert Bands, Jazz Bands, Quartets, Quintets, and much more. 

 

Levi Block started his music journey in 5th Grade playing the trumpet. Once Levi got to high school he switched to french horn, learned guitar for Jazz Band, and performed in all ensembles that were offered. Levi at the beginning of his Senior year got accepted to be in the Symphonic Band for the 2018 MMEA festival. Levi started composing in high school with many works played by his friends. Levi also orchestrated music in high school for his school ensembles to help accommodate the players the school had. 

 

Levi Block attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa graduating in May of 2023 with a Degree in Music Education. During his time in college he played with many Wind Ensembles, Jazz Bands, Music Pits, Choirs, and much more. Levi also in this time continued orchestrating for his old highschool and started composing more seriously. During his time at Loras he was able to work with many known composers such as Randall Standridge and Luke Flynn. Levi started composing many works for either his enjoyment or for ensembles to play. A few of note is the Loras College Jazz Band debuting  “Barrelhouse Blues” and a brass quintet of “Ob-la-di Ob-la-da.” played during a Senior Recital

 

Currently Levi Block teaches 5th and 6th Grade Band/General Music and composes during his free time. When he writes he tries to make every part have “their moment” with focus on each instrument's strength. Levi Block is working on getting his arrangements published and has created over 15 compositions/arrangements for many different Large/Small Group ensembles at a variety of different levels.
